Chapter 15

“You want to stop taking walks around the castle?

“Yes. I’m sure I’ve caused a lot of trouble for people up until now. That’s why I’ve decided to stay in the royal palace. That way, I can stay close to Mary Anne and Kilt too.”

“There’s nothing for Runa to worry about though.”

“Letting myself go out without a maid to accompany me was wrong of me…. And this time, I even caused trouble for  Your Highness. I couldn’t bear to interfere with your work any more than this.”

Later on after the incident, I was told that during the two days I was unconscious, His Highness never went to his office and had stayed by my side while I slept. Although he had continued working by my bedside, it didn’t change the fact that I had interfered with his work.

Also, even on the third day, when I was much better, he still came to check on me several times to ensure my situation had not worsened; this must have made it difficult for him to carry out his duties.

As a consort to the Crown Prince, it was something that I should never do — I could not disturb the duties of the crown prince. I could not let this happen again due to my selfishness.

“I wouldn’t mind as long as Runa says that it’s fine.”

“Yes. I don’t want to be a bother to Your Highness.”

“Fufu… For my sake, huh.”

“Your Highness?”

His Highness stroked my hair — his expression looked as if he was enjoying himself a lot.

“But that would be boring for Runa… Alright, I’m going to build an observatory then.

“An observatory?

“There’s this wonderful building in Prince Erlan’s palace. I’ve been considering  having one built as well, and have already started to prepare for its construction someday soon. Shall I build it close to the crown prince’s palace?”

As he said that, His Highness brought out a large bundle of paper. It was a blueprint of a building, which included a layout of plants and furniture.

“Is this… a five-story tower?”

“It’s a five floor building with the height of seven stories1. I think the one I saw at His Highness Erlan’s was about fifteen stories. It was initially used for the purpose of observing the movement of stars, but now it’s used as a space for the royal family’s entertainment. The tower itself isn’t that big, but it’s tall and has a very nice view. I’ve always wanted to show that view to Runa.”

Since the royal castle had been built on an area that was slightly elevated, the height of seven floors would be enough to be able to give a good view.

His Highness traced the blueprint with his finger, and told me it would be different from the tower he had seen at His Highness Erlan’s place, not just in terms of height, but also regarding the rooms within.

On the first floor, there would be a room fitted with bookshelves, a small room for hot water supply, and even a room where the maids could rest.

The second and third floors would be open-air, with corridor-like stairs, resting chairs, and windows for views.

On the fourth floor, there would be a lounge filled with plants that looked like a garden, and on the uppermost fifth floor, there would be a room to relax in as one gazed outside. There was a picture of a piece of furniture that was too big to be a chaise longue. If I wasn’t mistaken, it also had something that looked like a small bathing area.

“Your Highness, is the top floor a bedroom?”

“That’s right. I’m thinking of making a room where one can rest after having one’s fill of looking at the stars at night.”

“Sleeping under the stars all night… I think that would be incredibly lovely.”

Even thinking about the book which contained records describing observations on the stars caused my heart to beat excitedly. Technically, the large constellations in winter looked very impressive because the air was so clear then. But unfortunately, I always lost to the cold and could not observe them past midnight.

But I was sure that, from any part of this tower, I would be able to gaze at the beautiful stars until dawn. Just thinking of that made me as excited as a child.

Like when I was little and I first saw a book about stars… Right, it was my mother who first gave me that book. It was a book filled with many pictures of the starry sky that even small children could enjoy. I remembered gazing at it almost every night.

But after my mother passed on, it became painful to look at that book. And so, the book had been tucked away, hidden from my sight.

“I can’t forget how Runa happily showed me a book about stars when I was little. So I wanted to take you to a place where you could gaze at the stars to your heart’s content.”

“That book is probably the one my mother gave me.”

“No wonder. So were you taking care of it even at those three times?”

“…I loved that book. I’d always carried it with me.”

I recalled something. It was the day I went to a very large mansion with my mother, who had dressed in an even more beautiful dress than usual.

At that time, I was still trying to bring that book with me everywhere, and I was told to leave it with my father. Still, I hated that idea and got my mother to allow me to bring it along.

Right… I felt that I had shown that book to someone at the mansion. A boy with green eyes… maroon… no, golden hair…?

The flowing gold with slight maroon strands appeared in front of my eyes… No. First, it was a child with golden hair, then an older boy with maroon hair arrived. Then the golden-haired child stopped coming.

I… couldn’t remember that period of vagueness.

It wasn’t clear, but I was sure I met His Highness at that time.

“That was when I met your Highness, correct?”

“I thought you were a heavenly messenger holding that book of stars. That’s how cute and beautiful Runa was.”

“I wasn’t even four years old then. To call me beautiful is just…”

“Age doesn’t matter. Runa is more beautiful than anything else I’ve ever seen. Your beautiful black hair, glittering gray-blue eyes, red lips, and milky pale skin — everything is beautiful.”

“Your Highness.”

Feeling more and more embarrassed, I lowered my head, hiding my face from His Highness’s green eyes.

“Since then, Runa has always been beautiful. Of course, not only in appearance, but also in spirit. Diligent and hardworking, yet still so innocent…. The Runa I yearn for.”

“Your Highness…?”

When I couldn’t hear his last words clearly, I raised my head and then he kissed my cheeks and lips. That alone raised my entire body’s temperature a little.

Kisses were thoroughly exchanged. Lips were sweetly bitten, and tongues entwined with each other, as His Highness’ hands easily undid my nightwear. I wanted to do the same, but with my head tilted up, I could only unbutton His Highness’s jacket.

Once all my nightwear was stripped off, I was taken to bed. After being kissed here and there, I prepared to accept His Highness.

His Highness’s fingers, wet with lubricant, went inside one by one. By the time he had loosened me enough, the mouth of the lubricant bottle was also pressed against my hole. It filled my insides with plenty of liquid, and left that unclean place overwhelmed with arousal.

“I usually do it from behind so that it doesn’t hurt. Shall we do it from the front today?”

“Nn… from the front…?”

“Yes, I want to feel Runa while embracing you.”

After saying that, His Highness’s heated hands lifted my thighs. Those other parts were exposed in front of His Highness. As I froze, unable to move or speak at all, I felt His Highness press his member against the spot he had so thoroughly lubricated.

Ah. With that thought, I felt the sensation of my hole being pushed open. I could feel my insides being spread, which caused my body to tremble as I was hit with an incredible sense of fullness.

It felt different from usual. Together with this new sensation of being pressed down from above, it gave the feeling that I was being tightly held.

Words were not enough to describe the pain, yet it was mixed with an indescribable ecstasy.

“Hah.. ah… nhn… ah!”

“Fuu… I’m so aroused…. seeing your lovely soft and flushed expression.”

“Ah! Stop, stop, that’s… if you… ah, ah!”

“It’s curved so it’ll hit just right….  See, this is the place where Runa moans because it feels good.”

“Hya! Ah, ah, hya!”

“Crying again after climaxing twice…. Ah, isn’t this your seed… I wonder what it tastes like.”

The tip of my unclean place was being played with, but there was for me no way to stop those hands. Besides, all of the sounds that came out of my mouth were completely meaningless, incoherent words.

“The liquid’s all gushing out. Runa is so outstanding. See… you remember my shape very well.”

As our flesh slapped against each other, the slippery sounds it made overlapped with His Highness’ voice. I understood his words, but I had no time to respond, and was only able to shake my head.

My insides trembled as the peak approached. It was scary. The desire to escape slowly became stronger as I shook my head lightly.

“I’ve finally gotten rid of those unimportant things in order for this to be within my grasp. After I’ve claimed you, you yourself decided not to leave the crown prince’s palace. Fufu… to choose to be by my side. From now on and always, I will take good care of you. To that end, I will be an excellent crown prince and become a wise king. My dear Runa, my own Runa. Just having you by my side is all I need to make me so incredibly happy.”

His Highness’s elated words slipped into my ears. As he spoke, I felt myself tighten as he kept thrusting in and out of me. The tingling sensation buzzed in my stomach, and all of my nerves seemed to concentrate there.

Then, with His Highness’ elated voice, a place deep within me was being pushed open. At the same time, I felt something soft brush the area near my testicles. I was sure… it was a maroon colour that resembled His Highness’s hair.

“Ah, ah, nhn—!”

At the moment my legs were lifted up, I felt a hard and thick pressure deep within me. A moan leaked from my lips. His Highness’s lips pressed down, blocking any chance of air or sounds leaking out. My whole body was in pain, but a sharper sensation ran up my back from my waist, shooting straight up to my head, causing my eyelids to flutter violently.

— Oh no, I don’t think I can’t stand it.

My hips twitched, as I felt that sensation spread throughout my body, but even that movement was held down by His Highness, as my consciousness gradually faded.

I looked at the tower under construction from a distance; it seemed that it had been modified to connect to the crown prince’s palace by an outer corridor.

From the end of another, outer corridor which had been completed first, I gazed at the tower daily and could see it was shaping up quickly.

Come to think of it, the guest mansion has become much quieter.

I heard that in order to build a tower next to the crown prince’s palace, the courtyard of the guest mansion closest to the palace was reduced by half. I had initially worried if it would be fine, but there were three other guesthouses, so there were no issues at all.

Also, it seemed that the guesthouse near the crown prince was originally the place where the crown princess candidate lived. “This place is not needed anymore,” were the words of His Highness Willacliff.

The Princess of the Grand Duke, Latina, who had been staying at the guest mansion, had returned to her country during the three days I was unconscious. She was called to return immediately, and all of her greetings to the royal family were rushed and hurried.

I recalled that the palace ladies who had been sent to clean up the guesthouse had looked a little tired. It was about ten days after Princess Latina returned to her home country that I happened to hear the story from the maids.

”Because the matter of poison became public, she had to quickly return to her country.”

Poison. I was surprised to hear the word.

Since ancient times, it was not uncommon for aristocrats and royalty to poison political enemies and rivals in love. Such treacherous stories were a popular tale for the common folk to talk about, and there were many books of that kind in the city. I have read several of them. Poisonings have happened many times throughout history.

Maybe something happened to the Grand Duke. If so, then it could be one reason why Lady Latina had to be called back in a hurry.

It would be good if the situation hadn’t turned for the worse.

Looking at the guest mansion, which was completely deserted then, I couldn’t help but hope so.

“Well, Sir Ernis, are you looking at the tower again?”

“Harris.”

“I heard that the top floor is almost complete. The only thing left is the interior planned by the Crown Prince.”

“It seems that it will take some time to amend the blueprints a little. It’s said that they’re installing a device that can automatically go up and down.”

“I see. His Highness is truly working hard for this new love nest.”

“That’s…”

Harris’ words made my cheeks hot.

“No, it’s like an eternal honeymoon.”

“No! I think that expression is a little wrong. Um, rather than saying the tower is like that…”

“Oops, if I look at this cute face any longer, His Highness will kick my ass.”

“What? Why would His Highness…”

“Harris! I hope you’re not needlessly mouthing off again!”

A loud voice could be heard from the royal castle’s vicinity. Looking back, it was Sarius, Kilt’s older brother, who was approaching us with a light jog.

“What— appearing out of the blue like that. We’re just chatting.”

“Exactly! Seriously. You and Kilt are the same, with such loose tongues.”

“What? Speaking ill of my spouse?”

“Noisy. He’s still my brother though.”

“Yes, yes, unlike you, he’s a cute and energetic guy.”

“I know, I don’t need you to tell me that.”

“Is that so? But I think I know more about his cuteness than you, though?”

“What are you trying to say? I’m the one who’s been taking care of Kilt since he was young. I even changed his diapers…”

“Fufufu, kuku~”

I couldn’t handle the conversation between the two, so I burst out laughing.

“…We have shown you something very unsightly. Please forget it.”

“Well, I understand it’s because you brothers have a very close relationship. Isn’t that a good thing?”

Oh no. Laughter slipped out from my lips. I knew it was rude to laugh, yet because I was happy, it slipped out uncontrollably.

“I’ve known Kilt and his two brothers since a long time ago, and they’ve always been very close. They were especially close to Kilt, the youngest, and indulged him so much, probably because the age gap between them was so big.”

“Maybe that’s why he grew up so carefree and unrestrained. Also, he ended up becoming so talkative and would slip up and say the wrong thing at the wrong time. You husbands are just like each other.

“Yeah? I don’t slip up though? I know exactly what I’m saying when I leak things.”

“That’s even worse!”

“Haha, don’t get so worked up.”

I laughed again at their antics.

“It’s kind of interesting because I don’t have any brothers. Similar to you two and Kilt, His Highness Willacliff and His Highness Hartward are very close brothers.”

The two of them froze at my words. Then, both of their gazes turned me.

“Um…?”

Did I say something strange?

“Well, it’s good to have friendly relations between brothers. By the way, Sir Ernis, I heard you’re worried about finding a gift for the Crown Prince?”

“Eh? A gift… Yes, I’m wondering what would be good.”

“Hmm, then you might want to talk to Kilt. He’s liked all kinds of celebrations since he was young, so he’ll be familiar with that kind of thing. Right, Sarius?”

“Ah, that’s true. If you’re worried, talk to my little brother. He’ll be helpful.”

“Alright. Thank you.”

I told the two of them that I couldn’t decide on a birthday gift for His Highness Willacliff.

His Highness celebrated his 27th birthday just a little over a month ago. Though national celebrations and big parties were held, the celebrations at the Crown Prince’s palace were postponed because His Highness had said, “I want to celebrate it with Runa’s birthday,” and my birthday was approaching ten days from now.

On that day, I wanted to give a gift to His Highness.

However, until now, I had only given birthday gifts to my father, and I had no idea what to give to His Highness. Besides, His Highness was the crown prince, so I couldn’t give him something strange.

How difficult…

I had been thinking about it while watching the tower be constructed, but in the end I couldn’t come up with any good ideas. Then, as they recommended, it might be better to consult with Kilt.

I really wanted to choose it by myself, though.

No, there was a first time for everything. It couldn’t be helped. I could just select next year’s gift myself.

That’s right. Next year and the year after, I can also think of gifts for His Highness.

For that reason, I wanted to learn a lot and become someone suitable as His Highness’s companion.

It reminded me of the other day, when His Highness asked me to compile a history book.

“Runa is the number one scholar in the royal castle. I’m sure no one knows more about the history books in the castle than Runa. So I think compiling the information in history books is the perfect role for Runa. How about it?”

“Compiling history books?”

“Yes, going over and summarizing the history of our country and its neighbors. This will be a valuable resource for our country, and I think it’s the perfect job for Runa, who can read and write in foreign languages.”

“Can I really do this?”

“I think it’s suitable for Runa to compile the book. You also won’t need to leave the palace.”

I wasn’t sure if compiling history books was a suitable role for His Highness’s spouse. However, I wanted to try it, if it would at least be useful to His Highness.

In addition, His Highness must have taken the trouble to think about what I could do while staying within the palace, as well as considering a role that I, who was no good with carriages or public attention, could do.

“There’s plenty of time. Think about it,” His Highness said.

“Now, Sir Ernis, let’s head back to the room. Harris, what will you do?”

“I’ll stick around a little longer. Sir Ernis, I’ll see you later.”

“Understood. Thank you for all your care as always.”

“No, this is also part of my new mission.”

By the way, Kilt had said that Harris had moved on from being His Highness Hartward’s bodyguard to another mission. Probably because Lady Beata had returned to her birthplace in preparation for childbirth and no longer needed an escort guard.

I haven’t asked what kind of mission it was, but since I’ve been seeing him frequent the Crown Prince’s palace, I thought it might be a role related to His Highness Willacliff.

“Please be careful and watch your step.”

“I’m not a fragile aristocratic lady, so it should be okay?”

Sarius has always treated me like an aristocratic lady. Though it felt weird to begin with, I had already gotten used to it, and even laughed at it a little.

Winter is coming soon.

Time has passed quickly since I came to the crown prince’s palace.

I looked up at the sky above the royal castle and watched the green of the trees sway in the wind. My cheeks relaxed, remembering the gentle green eyes that were always looking at me.

This novel is good but it would have been better if Will just openly said everything to Ernis instead of keeping him in the dark. If he keeps up on not telling Ernis anything I feel like one day Ernis will want to leave him and Will will imprison Ernis to keep him from leaving thus starting an ultra toxic relationship.

Thank you for translating this novel and letting us readers meet Ernis and his husband who looks like they would fit a psychological horror film.

In regards to the second to last sentence… I think that might have been the point. He even built an entirely self-sufficient tower to keep him locked up in.
