Chapter 4: Something’s Wrong

Alan was lying in bed, thinking that if he left it alone, the shivering would go away. For a moment, Danis’ hand lifted Alan’s neck, forcing him to get up. He fit snugly in Danis’ arms, giving him the sensation of being hugged from his back.

All of a sudden, Alan’s mind grew panicked.

However, when his trembling body reflexively tried to thrash around, it was held down by one arm.

“Sorry, but this is my bed and the only one I have. If you’re shaking too much, I am gonna have to push you down.”

Alan was speechless, words failing to reach his mind.

I’m not sure if this man knows how to act around someone who he knows is a prince.

When I looked closely at Danis, I found that he had taken off his coat and suit with only light clothing left on his body. What was that hand that had just stroked my head earlier? Was it a misunderstanding to think it was kindness?

Alan’s body, still trembling and refusing to listen to him, was held down by one arm.

“Don’t tremble.”

Danis took a bottle of something and put its contents onto his hand. As Alan leaned over, curious about what was going on, Danis’ hand lifted up a large shirt that did not quite fit Alan and slid his liquid wet fingers into a crack in Alan’s buttocks.

Suddenly, Alan’s face turned pale as he grabbed Danis’ arm.

“What … are you doing?”

“I didn’t dare confirm it, but … “

What does he mean by confirm?

Alan tried to stop Danis with his own hands, yet Danis’ finger reached the bud within the crack of Alan’s buttocks, disregarding Alan’s protests.

At that moment, Alan’s face distorted, his body trembling as he endured the pain.

“Stop! Why … “

When Alan’s body began to shake uncontrollably, Danis told him to calm down while gently tapping him on his shoulder several times, attempting to move Alan into a more comfortable position.

During that time, Danis’s fingers sank deeper into Alan’s bud as he groped around the area, seemingly trying to confirm something. And although Alan felt pain from Danis’ touch, he let out a yelp as he began to feel something other than discomfort from Danis’ teasing fingers.

“Huh … !! … mmm … “

Though Alan tried to move his body to escape from Danis’ fingers, Alan could not, his arm being restrained by Danis. Tears accumulated under his eyelids from the pain. Alan, who could now only accept his fate, clenched his jaw as he suffered through.

Then, Alan heard Danis mutter something into his ear, saying that Alan’s condition was worse than he thought. The movement inside Alan stopped as Danis slowly pulled out his fingers.

After enduring so much pain, Alan exhaled and at the same time, unconsciously held his breath once more.

“I think this will be a relief,” Danis muttered.

Alan looked at Danis and asked if he was still going to do something. He struggled to breathe while his words seemed to come out by themselves. He stopped and began watching Danis’ actions.

Danis opened the bedside drawer and took out a small candle, placed it on the table, and took out a box as well. Within it, the contents included bandages and poultices that appeared to be for treatment, along with cream-like medicine.

I don’t have a bad feeling about him at all.

Danis lit the small candle with a match, releasing some sort of aroma. The sweet scent began to rise around him. The scent, something that Alan had never smelled before, made his head dizzy.

He began to realize that this was no ordinary aroma and quickly used his hands to cover his nose and mouth; however, it was already too late and his thoughts began to drift into a haze.

“What … is this … ?”

“You have to endure a little more. I will ease you from your fears, if only by a little.”

Alan was about to ask Danis what he was doing when Danis began moving without hesitation. Danis’ hand slowly lifted Alan’s shirt, his fingers gently moving from Alan’s exposed belly to his ribs.

And although it was but a simple stroke, Alan’s body quivered, the sensation moving from his spine to his head.

” … “

With a hazy mind, Alan couldn’t even move his body in protest. Is it this scent that’s making my body feel like it’s burning?

Danis’ breathing brushed against Alan’s ears, sending a shiver down his spine while making his body even more sensitive.

“Focus on the pleasure that you’re feeling.”

Danis felt Alan’s resistance lessening and slowly released his grip on Alan. He smiled and stroked Alan’s head. When he was done, he grabbed Alan’s ear and gently outlined it with his tongue.

“Mmm … “

Alan was confused by the sensation crawling up from inside of him.

He didn’t know this feeling. Before this, he only knew pain and disgust, yet the hot sensation growing inside of him felt foreign to his body. Every time Danis touched it, his body reacted with embarrassment.

Alan felt relieved. The hand that stroked him felt so familiar, as if he knew it from long ago. This was especially true when Danis patted Alan’s head, his hands giving Alan a sense of intimacy. Alan wondered if this was also because of the scent he had smelled earlier.

Danis’s tongue ran down from the back of Alan’s ears to his neck, as if to ignore Alan’s thoughts.

“Hmm … mmm … “

Alan’s body began to shake with excitement as he struggled to push and suppress the sounds coming from his mouth. The sweetness of his sighs both surprised and ashamed him.

While he was intoxicated by this sensation, Alan didn’t notice that Danis had one hand reaching for the cream-like medicine. Danis’ finger reached for Alan’s anus, snuggled between the crack of his ass.

It hurt, though the pain felt more like a tingling sensation.

”It’s okay … just focus on me,” Danis said.

He sucked on the back of my neck and then ran his tongue down to the base. His finger fondled my anus, teasing it in order to easily slip back inside and caress the interior.

“Ah … “

Alan’s mind became clouded, confused about whether his body was shaking from pain or Danis’s touch. Alan’s head was empty of thoughts, save for the sensations he felt.

Heat sprung up from inside him, gathering in his lower abdomen. His body was far too honest, the hot feeling causing something between Alan’s legs to stiffen.

Because Alan’s shirt was already rolled up, there was no hiding as Danis looked straight at it.

“What … what …”

Danis noticed his surprise and assured Alan that there was nothing strange about it.

“Is this really normal?” Alan asked, his neck tilted.

Danis responded with a faint smile and applied some more cream onto Alan’s ears.

“There are other things too.”

With those words, Danis’ free hand began stroking the stiffness between Alan’s legs.

“You’re surprised yet your body is so sensitive at the same time.”

As Danis uttered those words, Alan’s body trembled for a moment, shaking when Danis touched his sensitive part. Without listening to Danis’ words of restraint, Alan touched the tip with his own finger, then curled them around his shaft while moving his hand up and down.

Alan reflexively began to sway his body to the sudden waves of strong pleasure, his exposed mouth making sounds and noises even he did not recognize.

“Uh … ah … ?”

This new sensation was so intense that Alan’s mind went blank. His hips moved naturally following the rhythm of his hands while his face flushed hot with embarrassment; though Alan felt a sense of shame, he wanted more.

He noticed that the finger inside his anal cavity shifted and sank further in, moving around as if it was probing for something. Within seconds, Alan’s body jerked back when the finger rubbed against a specific area inside.

“Ahh … !!!”

It was here that Danis’s fingers began to touch relentlessly. And with each stroke, Alan’s voice let out a small cry, his head turning white while his vision blurred.

“Huh … hmm … there … weird … “

Danis’ fingers moved relentlessly and without stopping; Alan’s consciousness jumped for a moment.

Alan’s body reached climax without mercy.

His body recoiled as his hips thrust forward. Pushed to the brink, Alan couldn’t stand it any longer and spurt out the heat concentrating in his lower body.

Danis caught it with his hand.

Alan’s head still hadn’t caught up with him and he let his weight fall into Danis’s arms while gasping for air, his body relaxing.

Maybe I am feeling a little disoriented? Danis patted Alan on the head.

Alan had never felt anything like this before. He thought about how all these new sensations felt strange, perhaps even good. The humiliation he had received from Gabriel’s men had left Alan with nothing but a sickening and painful image.

However, being made to pant like a woman at the hands of a man was not only hard to swallow but also embarrassing. Somehow, Alan couldn’t look directly at Danis and averted his gaze.

After that, Danis wiped his hands lightly without changing his demeanour. He then extinguished the candles and wiped the sweat off of his body.

To be honest, I was expecting he’d leave me alone, Alan pondered with surprise.

“We’ll be out before dawn, so get some sleep while you can,” Danis said.

Alan was about to leave Danis’ arms, feeling embarrassed, but was quickly stopped when Danis wrapped his arms around Alan once again. Then, Danis pressed his full weight on top of Alan, causing the both of them to fall together.

“Erm … what… “

“I can’t sleep without feeling the warmth of another body” Danis replied.

“Huh? What?”

 Alan turned bright red.

‘I don’t want to fall asleep while being hugged by the person who had played with my body just a while ago.’

Danis may not have been aware of it, but Alan was, whether knowingly or not.

“Don’t do that!”

Alan flailed, but Danis’s arm was too strong, preventing Alan from leaving his grasp.

After some time, Alan asked Danis what he was doing, but was met with a still silence. Alan let out a small sigh.

“He’s really sleeping.”

Alan was so weak that he had no choice but to lie down, his aching body stiff.

When Alan woke up the next day, he remembered that Danis had slept right beside him. He was shocked to see that Danis used his body as a pillow, though only after treating Alan’s wounds.

Alan thought it was stupid, so he closed his eyes while concentrating on the warmth of Danis’ body, pretending to go back to sleep.

Then he finally realized something. There was a slight scent of lavender that he hadn’t noticed before, the odour of cigarettes still masking it. When he opened his eyes, Alan could make out the chain of a pendant through the gap in Danis’s shirt, perhaps the source of the lavender scent.

He closed his eyes once again, concentrating on the nostalgic scent as he slowly fell back into sleep.

Chapter: 3 Humiliation

A few days had passed since he had been jailed, and all Alan had been able to do was lament in his mind about his lack of power. The title of “prince” meant nothing in the situation he was in, nor did anyone try to help him.

If he thought about it, he was the first in line for the throne; beside him, there was nobody else. His mother had passed away early on, his stepmother’s son was not eligible to be a prince, and his most trusted steward had returned to his grandfather’s city for his first vacation in a long time.

The soldiers of the army were also under the command of Prime Minister Gabriel.

As he pondered his circumstances despairingly, a soldier’s voice called out the other side of his prison’s door.

“Prince Alan, please come out. I’ve been ordered to take you to Prime Minister Gabriel.”

What the heck did he want now? Alan had already lost any and all hope and will to live that he had held in his heart.

The soldier took him to the room where Prime Minister Gabriel was staying. In the middle of the large room was a desk; Gabriel was seated on a chair behind it.

The soldier directed Alan to move and stand across from Gabriel, and Alan stood there and faced the Prime Minister. Then the soldier who had brought Alan to the room left. Alan glanced around from where he was standing and noticed that there were 2 soldiers who seemed to be Gabriel’s entourage and had remained in the corner of the room.

“What do you want now?”

Alan suspiciously looked at Gabriel and, in response, Gabriel smiled unpleasantly at him.

“What, don’t be so on guard. I’m just trying to have a nice, mutually beneficial conversation.”

Alan felt uncomfortable with Gabriel’s words. What did he want from the guilty prince now…?

“…I don’t think I have any interest in working with you.”

 Gabrielle’s mouth curved.

“Well, it’s simple. If the king dies, and the prince tells the people of the nation that he is a criminal, it would cause anxiety and unrest throughout the land. The peace and tranquillity of the country may be shattered. So I had a thought.

“What …?”

“Let’s let bygones be bygones, right? In exchange, I would like you to entrust me with full political authority.”

 Alan froze for a moment.

At Gabriel’s proposal, Alan quickly realized what his motive was. There was no evidence. But his words said it all.

This country was a country that had been founded by the royal lineage. Even if this man suddenly became king, riots and civil war would still occur. If that was the case, then he could set up a king that suited his purposes. That way, he could easily control the politics of the country without facing any consequences.

In other words, Gabriel, towards Adele is …

“… You want me to be a puppet king, just there for decoration?”

As soon as he said that, Gabriel’s expression changed.

The Prime Minister, who had been consumed by his greed and desire for power, smiled despicably.

“Whether you die, persecuted as a criminal or live the rest of your life comfortably as a puppet… even a child can point out which is obviously better, right?”

Gabriel’s words had convinced Alan. He was the one who had the king killed …or he was the one who had also plotted behind the crime.

His shoulders shook with anger and, at the same time, laughter. And at the end, Alan had fully burst out laughing.

Gabriel looked at him strangely, wondering if he had finally lost his mind.

When Alan finally stopped laughing, he glared at Gabriel with his big blue eyes through his pale blonde hair.

“Don’t be stupid! I’m the son of the king. I’d rather choose death than go through the humiliating  experience of being such a puppet!”

As Alan defiantly spat out these words, Gabriel sighed in amazed exasperation.

“He’s a stupid prince… Apparently, he doesn’t understand his position.”

Gabriel snapped his fingers. At that gesture, the two soldiers that had been standing at the corner of the room and were part of Gabriel’s entourage approached Alan.

His head was quickly grabbed from behind. His face was then forcefully pressed against the floor. Alan groaned weakly from the pain of this treatment. However, Alan continued to glare up at Gabriel, despite having his arm pulled back and restrained behind him to keep him from struggling.

“Boys, discipline this fool of a prince. Just don’t hurt him too much, okay?”

Gabriel looked down at him as if he were an insect and then left the room.

“Hng… Let me go!!”

Alan tried to shake the men off, but his opponents were soldiers. Alan was completely powerless.

The soldier who had forced Alan’s head down pulled his hair roughly and forced the struggling Alan to face him.

“Prince? It’d be better for you to give in quickly?”

The soldier laughed in a very vulgar manner and as Alan saw his expression, a chill ran down his spine.

“I was told not to hurt you too much. Well, let’s see how long you can hold up and keep saying no!”

As the soldier spoke, he violently tore at the clothes that Alan was wearing.

From there, it was truly a hopeless situation.

Yes, Alan didn’t want to remember it.

That kind of thing. That utter humiliation.

“Run, Alan!”

Upon remembering his father’s last words, Alan came back to his senses with a huff.

Danis, who should have been outside, filled Alan’s field of vision. Alan’s body was sweaty and shivering, even though it wasn’t cold. His lips were tightly clamped and his teeth were chattering against each other, as if he couldn’t clench them.

At that moment, Danis gently tried to put his hand on Alan’s forehead. Alan’s mind seemed to overlap this image with something else and he reflexively slapped it away quite forcefully. Once he realized what he’d done, Alan was surprised at this unconscious action and looked down at his hand.

Alan was clearly in a completely frightened state. At this, Danis, who had always given the impression of being calm and collected, showed a surprised expression.

Alan laid his body back down to sleep and turned his back to Danis.

“Well, … I’m sorry.”

With a shudder, Alan shrank back, and wrapped his arms tightly around himself.

After a few moments of silence passed, Danis’s hand brushed Alan’s head once more, and then Alan was relieved to feel the presence behind him fade away.

Ch  2: The Reason for Escaping

After the soldiers’ surprise visit, Danis took a short breather before slipping the pistol into his coat that was hanging in the closet. He began to put his things back in order with ease.

As Alan’s mind finally calmed down from the soldiers’ visit, he began to examine the wig he was presently wearing and wondered why Danis had such a thing.

 Too well prepared.

It wasn’t unusual for people to have pistols and weapons in this country, but the way he handled them and the speed with which he responded to soldiers when they arrived. Regardless of how Alan, who had grown up in the royal palace, thought about it, it seemed like Danis was no ordinary person.

I’m not sure what kind of person this guy Danis is. In the back of his mind, Alan wondered if he could really rely on this man.

“Who are you?”

Danis paused for a bit at Alan’s questions, then he slowly turned to Alan in the middle of his preparations.

“I’m not sure what you’re talking about. There’s a good chance they’ll be back. I’ll be out of here before dawn. I admire you for escaping from the castle guards, but if you want to keep running, you’ll have to do it alone. If you want to follow me, I won’t stop you.”

“If you want to turn back, now is the time… Unless you’re ready to give up everything.”

After plainly saying these words, Danis resumed his preparations.

Danis asked him if he was prepared to throw everything away. He was probably asking if,  as a prince, he could completely abandon his previous life.

You can go back now? When Alan heard that, he hugged his knees, and the dark feelings that he had been trying to supress earlier welled up. He pushed down the feeling of wanting to cry and quietly let out a bitter laugh.

“It’s not like I have a place in that castle anymore. Without the title of a prince, I’m just a child. Am I not just a bother to you?”

Danis finished dressing, glanced at Alan once, then sat down in the chair as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened. He sipped a cup of cold coffee and smiled faintly as if something was funny.

“If it bothers you that much, then you’ve been bothering me since I carried you here.”

It was just mere words.

Alan didn’t know why, but as soon as he heard those words, the tears that he thought had already receded were filling up his eyelids and blurring his vision.

Somehow, it felt like Danis’s words didn’t seem to push Alan away or to sympathize with him, but seemed to say that he should just do what he liked. Even though it was the first time they had met, Alan felt such a sense of relief made him forget his earlier anxiety.

After a while, Danis put his arm through a coat, and lightly placed his hand on Alan’s head, who was still bent over and hugging his knees, and said, “I’m going out for a bit.”. He went out the front door.

The rain had already stopped when Danis stepped outside. He took a cigarette out from his coat pocket and lit it.

”This seems to be more important than I thought. “

After smoking a bit more, he continued down the alleyway, making sure to avoid any soldiers.

After Danis left the room, Alan rolled over on the bed and faced up. He gazed at the ceiling of the modest house before realizing with a start.

After all that, I still haven’t asked him his name!

The fact that he had been deceived so well made him feel a bit wary, but he lay back down on the bed and with a heavy sigh.

Well in my case, I still haven’t told him why I am being chased by soldiers. In the first place though, this Danis guy never asked. Alan wasn’t sure if he just didn’t want to know or if he was waiting for him to speak about it himself.

I still don’t know if I can trust him.

But Alan didn’t have any other choices in this situation. The touch of a soft bed… the smell of warm coffee and beans… he never thought he’d be able to experience such things again.

The day of sorrow and despair that had led Alan to his current situation happened a week ago. He gripped the sheets tightly and as he started recalling it.

It was on a day just like today; it was raining hard and he couldn’t sleep that night. He heard the sound of something falling and of breaking glass coming from the king’s, Alan’s father’s, bedroom.

When he entered the bedroom, he found the king lying on the bed with blood pouring out of his wounded stomach.

“Father? What the hell is this? What is — ? “

Confused by the current situation, he called out to see if anyone was there who could get help. A maidservant immediately rushed to the scene, cried out shrilly in surprise, and then ran to get a doctor.

As that was happening, the king coughed up blood and then tightened his grip on Alan’s hand.

“Alan… run away… hurry…”

Then the king coughed once more, before his grip on Alan’s hand weakened, and he seemingly lost consciousness.

While confused by the king’s words, Alan looked around the room and saw that the glass window had been broken. Someone might have entered through there. Alan tightened his grasp on the king’s hand.

“I’m fine! So stay strong and be careful…”

The king looked at Alan and smiled gently. Then, as if he’d used up all his energy, his hand suddenly became limp and slipped from Alan’s grasp.

“Father! Father!!!?”

Alan hugged the king and wept, tears streaming down his face at this unexpected tragedy.

The maidservant then arrived with a doctor, but the doctor merely shook his head when he saw the king’s condition. While Alan was in a daze and unable to keep up with the suddenness of the situation, the Prime Minister, a small, fat, middle-aged man of huge stature named Gabriel, had arrived after hearing of the situation.

“This is…! The King…! Oh my God, such a thing…!”

The Prime Minister fell to his knees in apparent disbelief.

A military police officer hurriedly entered the room.

“I’m sorry, sir! With all due respect, I’d like to report that a suspicious object was found in the prince’s room.”

What the military police timidly presented was a small knife with blood on its blade.

Everyone present then showed shocked expressions on their faces except Alan. He was still unable to accept the reality of the king’s death and could only dumbly look at what the military police had presented.

He vaguely heard the voices around him saying, “Oh no” and “No way.”. But he could not understand what they were saying. He had been asleep earlier, and it was only when he noticed the noise that he ran to …

“I can’t believe such a thing. But if you have proof, there’s nothing we can do… Take him away.”

Prime Minister Gabriel, who should have been on his knees, then instructed the soldiers. The soldiers were urged to take Alan away after he was separated from the king.

“What are you saying? I’m the king’s son! You can’t really believe that I would raise a hand against the King.”

The Prime Minister Gabriel shook his head, and the people around Alan looked at him somewhat scornfully. Everyone who was in this castle knew that Alan was doted on by the king. And yet he was suspected? Alan’s mind went blank at the incomprehensible situation.

Then he suddenly remembered the last words of the king. Run away. This is what he meant by it…

After that, despite his protests, Prince Alan, was thrown in jail for allegedly murdering the king.

Ch 1: I picked up the prince

It was in a lonely section of the downtown area, a short distance away from the prosperous city that was the Lant Kingdom.

The empty street was lined with brick houses. It was raining heavily that day, making the footing and visibility difficult.

A lone man was walking through one of the back alleys while holding an umbrella. He had  shoulder-length hair and was dressed in a black coat. Suddenly, he heard the sound of several footsteps splashing through the rain-soaked ground, as well as several shouts that sounded like orders coming from the main road.

What’s going on?

When the man discreetly checked the main road, he could see several armored soldiers coming and going.

Although it was the royal capital, it was unusual to mobilize and transfer this many soldiers to the downtown area, which was a considerable distance away from where aristocrats lived.

It was rare for soldiers to come and go downtown unless they had a significant reason to. Unless it was something to do with the state, such a thing was just unlikely.

The man turned the corner of the back alley, and wondered if he should investigate what was going on afterwards.

While he was distracted by this thought,  something caught his leg. A moment later, he heard a weak groan coming from below and looked down.

A blond-haired young boy, whose beauty would be breathtaking even to men, was lying there on the street.

However, the boy was roughed up in many places and his arm was bleeding, likely from an injury.

He was clearly not the kind of boy who frequented the back alleys. Then there was the strange presence of several soldiers, patrolling the street.

The man sighed heavily. He had a bad feeling about this.

I guess I won the lottery.

But the man couldn’t bring himself to just leave the boy there, so he gently lifted the boy up and brought him to the house where he lived.

The coals were still burning in the fireplace.

The boy was roused to consciousness by the sound of them burning and crackling. He was still a bit dazed. Also, based on the soft, warm sensation on his skin, it seemed that he had fallen asleep on a bed.

It was strange. He was sure that before he passed out, he had fallen on the side of a road. Both the cold from the rain and the wounds he received during his escape had exhausted him so much that, eventually, he was no longer able to move or stay conscious.

While he was slowly gathering his thoughts, he felt a weight on the left side of his body and a warmth that was not his own. This woke him up at once. The boy’s blue eyes widened and he quickly jumped out from under the quilt and moved towards the head of the bed. He realized that a black-haired stranger had been sleeping beside him this whole time.

“What! ??? Who? Eh…??”

While he was still struggling to grasp the situation, the boy got even more confused when he realized that he was naked as he got up.

The dark-haired man grunted softly as some of the weight that he’d placed on the boy sank into the bed.

The boy shivered for a moment and wondered if the man would wake up while he was still disconcerted. He didn’t know what to do. When he moved his arm, he realized from the pain that it was slightly injured, and that it had also been bandaged. He took a closer look at his whole body and found that compresses and other medicines had been applied to his small scratches and bruises.

Apparently, this dark-haired man had taken care of him.

 He began to calm down.

Maybe he wasn’t a bad person in any way. As the boy thought that, the black-haired man shifted once in his sleep then slowly got up. He ran a hand through his long black hair and then turned to the boy.

He was still young, but he was clearly older than the boy; his calm demeanor and somewhat cold dark eyes gave the impression of someone in his late 20s.

“… You’re awake?”

The man wasn’t fully conscious yet, and his words were a bit slurred.

“Are you… ? Is this… ? What happened to your clothes? “

The boy noticed that the man was also naked, though only his upper body was exposed, and glared at him.

The man didn’t pay any mind to him or his questions. He took out a cigarette that was placed nearby and lit it. He took a puff and calmly blew out the smoke.

“I’m sure you’ll be pleased to hear that I’ve saved your life… Prince Alan?”

 The man smiled wryly.

At his words, the boy started to panic.

“How do you know my name?”

At that moment, the man coughed and then quickly stifled his laughter.

The boy realized that he had been tricked and his face turned red with anger.

Did he do it on purpose? At these words, the man said he was sorry, but that Alan still looked a little funny.

“I only guessed based on the situation. Even I’ve seen the prince from a distance, so I just said it as speculation.”

This boy was the prince of this runt country. Alan frowned.

“I’m not sure who you are, but you’ve got a lot of nerve stripping me and then lying in bed with me when you are aware I am a prince. Give me my clothes now.”

The man realized he had teased Alan too much, and handed him a shirt from the shelf without saying anything more.

Alan took it a little roughly from him and put his arm through the shirt, which probably belonged to the man.

“My name’s Danis. I’m sorry, but you were wet and dirty, and I threw away your clothes. I don’t know what happened, but a prince being chased by soldiers isn’t exactly something that just happens, isn’t it? Instead, I’m going to have to make you look a little more plain, if only for a while You’ll have to put up with that for a bit.”

 Alan twitched at his words.

This dark-haired man, Danis, said that he had only guessed the person he had helped was the prince. He also seemed a little surprised at the fact that Alan, the prince, was being hunted.

Normally, if the prince was in such an area and civilians realized that the soldiers were chasing him, they would have already reported his location to the soldiers. Whatever their reasons, they would think nothing of handing him over to the soldiers and sending him back to the castle. If they were noblemen, they would be looking for a way to impress their superiors; and if they were civilians, they would be looking for a reward.

But Danis didn’t do any of that. He said that he knew Alan was being hunted but it didn’t seem like he reported it to the soldiers.

“No, I was rude to the person who helped me too. Thank you… I should be more patient.”

Danis gave a surprised look at the prince, who suddenly felt embarrassed. Maybe he thought that Alan acted more haughty than that. It was a bit rude to say, but not long ago, it’s likely that Alan would have taken it for granted that he was being helped.

Danis poured some coffee into two cups and handed one to Alan. Alan took a sip of the coffee and was finally able to regain more calm.

Danis pressed his cigarette against the ashtray on the desk near his bed to put it out. He sat down on the chair, sipped his coffee, and then turned to Alan.

“So, what is the prince going to do now?”

As Danis was speaking, they suddenly heard a heavy knock at the front door.

Alan glanced at the door in surprise, and suddenly had a bad premonition.

Danis calmly placed his coffee cup on the desk and stood up; his face instantly turned grim.

“National Guards, come out now!”

 Alan’s premonition had come true.

 He turned pale and froze.

Danis quickly took out a pistol from one of the drawers in this room. He checked the ammunition in the pistol with a practiced hand and tucked it in his pants’ waistband at the small of his back. He took out a long brown wig from the closet and threw it at Alan.

Alan, who was stunned by the turn of events, swiftly caught it. He glanced questioningly at Danis, unsure of what it was for.

Danis looked back at him and said, “Take off your shirt, put the wig on, and get under the covers. And whatever you do, don’t face here.”

These instructions were rapidly whispered to him, but Alan was too stunned to keep up with the suddenness of the situation, so Danis urged him in a slightly stronger tone, “Faster!” He hurriedly put on the wig and crawled into the bed.

In the meantime, they continued to hear heavy knocks on the front door.

“I can hear you, sir.”

Danis opened the front door, sounding somewhat annoyed.

Alan gulped and swallowed at the situation. He felt as if his heart was about to stop.

”What can I do for you?” said Danis to the soldiers.

The soldiers were surprised but, as if reading the atmosphere, they responded in a more subdued tone.

“Excuse me, we’re looking for a blonde-haired, blue-eyed boy of about 16. I’ve been informed that you’ve seen him in the area. Do you know him?”

Danis deliberately pretended to think about it. The soldiers were quickly interested in having a possible lead.

“If that’s the case, he woke up a while ago and had immediately left.”

“Which way did he go?”

“He went that way, and then to the right.”

“Thank you for your cooperation!”

“No, make sure to be careful with your footing.”

After that, the soldiers saluted and Danis was about to close the door when one soldier called out to stop him.

Danis readied his right hand to quickly grab for the pistol on his back.

Alan, who was listening in as the situation unfolded, swallowed the saliva that had accumulated due to his tension, and felt his limbs go cold from sweat.

“Have I met you somewhere before?”

Upon hearing that, Danis surreptitiously relaxed his stance and laughed.

“Meet someone like me, who lives downtown? Maybe you’re imagining things?”

The soldier gazed intently at Danis, then nodded and ran down the road Danis mentioned in his lie.

Danis finally closed the front door. He let out a quiet sigh and then snickered.

“They should have at least checked the rooms.”

”Like I’d that happen!” Alan jumped up from the bed. It seemed that he finally realized that he had been tricked into posing as a woman using the wig and was angry about it. Danis just shrugged his shoulders.
